KIDS corner School year

KIDS corner School year survival: Gett ing your groove back By Laura Abouzeid Summer break is officially over and the new school year is upon us. You might be feeling a little sad yet excited at the same time, but more importantly you’ve probably noticed that it takes a lot to transition into the back to school schedule. Whether it’s mentally or physically, going from a laid-back summer to a busy school day can be stressful — but there’s no getting out of it. Here are a couple of tips to help make your school year a smooth one. 1. Take care of yourself. Make sure that you’re physically ready by being well rested and well fed. No more crazy summer bedtimes and no more Popsicle lunches. Getting sleep and eating nutritional foods are key to your success in school. Don’t forget that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and you do need at least eight hours of sleep. So eat your Wheaties and keep your bedtime! 2. Get organized! Lay out your clothes and pack your backpack and lunch the night before. Get a calendar and fill in school events, due dates and vacation days. Make a daily schedule of what time you will use to do your homework. You can even make yourself a special quiet place to do it that is stocked with supplies and organized to keep you focused. Keep your assignments together in a folder so you don’t lose them. All these things will keep you from finding yourself telling your teacher that “the dog ate your homework.” 3. Be prepared and stay ahead. You will most likely get sick at least once during the school year and there’s nothing worse than coming back to a load of missed homework. If you’re out for a couple of days try having your parents or a friend pick up and drop off your assignments. If for any reason you feel like you’re falling behind or don’t understand something, make sure to let your teachers know as soon as possible. They will be more than Word Search School Sleep Breakfast Organized Prepared Assignment Activities happy to help you and keep you from feeling flustered. 4. Have fun! If you’re feeling good everything else will be smooth sailing. School can be exciting as long as you keep a good attitude about it. It’s a time to make new friends and see old ones, laugh and play and join in on a ton of fun activities. Most importantly, pay attention and do as well as you can in your studies. School will be a lot more fun if you have that part down.
