If you want to go the traditional route, wear the wedding band “closest to your heart” by putting it on first. The engagement ring goes on top. Most ring sets from jewelers are designed to be worn this way. During the ceremony, wear your engagement ring on your right hand so the groom can slip on the wedding band easily. After the mass you can put the engagement ring atop the wedding band. Some people prefer it the other way around, putting the wedding on top of the engagement ring. They believe this shows the story from engagement to marriage and represents the culmination of the wedding in the marriage. Or, of course, you can do it Iraqi-style, by wearing your engagement ring on your right hand until after you’ve taken your vows.
