eady for her spotlight Chaldean is among ‘Motor City Wives’ By Crystal Kassab Jabiro It was a chance meeting at the Palazzo Grande in Shelby Township that casted Suzanne Lossia into Motor City Wives, a new reality show featuring seven women in and around Detroit. The producer saw her, complimented her dress, and proceeded to talk to her about the show. A week later, the producer called. “The producer was like, ‘You’ve got a great story,’” said Lossia, who is in her 30s. “She said that the network said the ratings will shoot up because of me.” Lossia was raised in a very strict Chaldean home where it was not uncommon for parents to shield their only daughter or for three brothers to be overprotective of their only sister. In fact, she did not date her husband Tony; after one meeting, his mother asked the family for her hand in marriage and five ‘The network said the ratings will shoot up because of me.’ – Suzanne Lossia months later, they were wed. Lossia had just graduated from West Bloomfield High School and suddenly became a stay-at-home mom to her two sons, Alex and Kyle, now 16 and 14, respectively. The traditionally matched marriage did not last. The couple divorced seven years ago and Lossia, who has never worked, has solely concentrated on her children. “My main focus was raising my kids the right way, always on top of them,” she said. “I live, breathe and die for my two boys.” Now that both her sons will be in high school this fall, Lossia wants to do something for herself. So when the reality show opportunity presented itself, she mulled it over for a month Her Favorite Things Quote: “Don’t stop believing.” Local landmark: St. Mary’s Grotto in Orchard Lake Starbucks: Café Via Restaurant: The Rugby Grille in the Townsend in Birmingham Hobby: Traveling with her parents, brothers and sons, who have all been supportive. “At first I was worried about people talking about me, but for every one hater there are a thousand lovers,” she said. “Whoever doesn’t know me will get to know me through the show and those who do know me understand what kind of mother I am. My family — they are my rock.” She saw an attorney and signed a contract late last year. Lossia said she is not only doing the show for herself or for her family — it’s for the entire Metro Detroit Chaldean community. photo by Ron Lieberman, LiebermanPhotography.com “We are the most beautiful, family-oriented, hard-working people. We are very successful and very passionate about what we do. The rest of the country needs to know Chaldeans,” she said. Lossia said the producers told her there has been a lot of buzz about Chaldeans and the show itself throughout the Internet and social media. Among Lossia’s Twitter fans are Bravo’s Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi from “Shahs of Sunset” and Teresa Giudice from “Real Housewives of New Jersey” as well as comedians Sinbad and Terry Jones. The show has already been picked up by an undisclosed network (rumored to be VH1) and will premiere in the fall. Lossia’s contract disallows her from discussing who else is a part of the diverse cast, which is rumored to include: Kim Mathers Scott (rapper Eminem’s ex-wife), Ayana Kilpatrick Ferguson (Kwame Kilpatrick’s sister), Sara Stokes from MTV’s “Making the Band,” and Deelishis, MTV’s “Flavor of Love 2” winner. Lossia is the only woman from Oakland County. They have been taping episodes about three times a week for the past few months. Lossia does not know too much about the other women’s personal lives, but said she appreciates the learning experience in such a racially, culturally and economically diverse group of women. The new celeb claims this show will be different than the other wivesbased franchises like “Real Housewives of…,” “Basketball Wives” or “Mob Wives.” The Detroit wives, she said, are showcasing the positives of Detroit by attending charity functions and girls’ night outs, not engaging in catty arguments, pulling hair and flipping tables. Not that it couldn’t happen. As Lossia said, “You’re going to see the good, the bad and the truth.” Follow Lossia on Facebook and Twitter @suzanne_lossia. 36 CHALDEAN NEWS JULY 2012
