St. Thomas was a Jew, called to be one of the 12 Apostles. He was known as a dedicated and impetuous follower of Christ. However, he is best known for his role in verifying the Resurrection of his Master. When Jesus said He was returning to Judea to visit His sick friend Lazarus, Thomas immediately exhorted the other Apostles to accompany Him on the trip, which involved certain danger and possible death because of the mounting hostility of the authorities. At the Last Supper, when Christ told His Apostles that He was going to prepare a place for them to which they also might come because they knew both the place and the way, Thomas pleaded that they did not understand and received the beautiful assurance that Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Thomas’ unwillingness to believe that the other Apostles had seen their risen Lord on the first Easter Sunday merited for him the title of “doubting Thomas.” Eight days later, on Christ’s second apparition, Thomas was gently rebuked for his skepticism and furnished with the evidence he had demanded — seeing in Christ’s hands the point of the nails and putting his fingers in the place of the nails and his hand into His side. St. Thomas became convinced of the truth of the Resurrection and exclaimed, “My Lord and My God,” thus making a public Profession of Faith in the Divinity of Jesus. St. Thomas is also mentioned as being present at another Resurrection appearance of Jesus — at Lake Tiberias when a miraculous catch of fish occurred. This is all that we know about St. Thomas from the New Testament. Tradition says that at the dispersal of the Apostles after Pentecost this saint was sent to evangelize the Parthians, Medes and Persians; he ultimately reached India, carrying the Faith to the Malabar coast, which still boasts a large native population calling themselves “Christians of St. Thomas.” He capped his life by shedding his blood for his Master, speared to death at a place called Calamine. OBITUARY Hayata Sitto Najor Laugh as we always laughed At the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word That it always was. Let it be spoken without effect. Without the trace of a shadow on it. Michigan Dining At Its Best Hayata Sitto Najor was born on September 20, 1925 and passed on May 21, 2012. She is the wife of the late Elias Najor and the mother of Venolia (Salem) Murad, George (Nadia) and Ameer (Hana) Najor. She was a devoted Yuma to Jason (Renee), Jennifer, Janice, Jeffrey (Allena), Heather, Vanessa, Amanda and Alex Najor, Waad (Huda), Bassam (Rasha), Norman (Lana), Joey (Nita) and Brenda Murad. She was also a great-grandmother to 18 kids. Our Yuma was the center of our life and we were the center of hers. She over-exceeded all grandmothers. Her grandchildren meant so much to her that she would walk blocks to visit them and make sure they were okay. Family was No. 1 to her. Her last words to us whenever we would leave the house would be, “make the sign of the cross before you drive off.” Yuma was one of the strongest people we knew. She foresaw many tragedies in her life that not too many people would see in a lifetime. Her hard life made her into the strong and appreciative person she was. She was a mom to many people. Yuma was the best cook and we will greatly miss her cooking. We will always remember Yuma praying with her friends. She was very dedicated to God and involved in the church. There is no other Yuma like ours. Everyone knew “Hayata.” Whenever anyone asked us who we are we wouldn’t say our parents’ name, but we would say “Hayata” is our Yuma and they would automatically know who we are. She was known by her first name. We loved her so much that it was hard to see her leave us. Yuma, you will always be in our hearts. We will miss you dearly. Thank you, Yuma, for everything. You have finally reunited with your husband, kids and grandkids. May you finally rest. For death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity. • USDA Prime Steaks • Private Room for Showers, Graduations and all your special events • Alfresco Dining in the Herb Garden Insta-Ice of Michigan, LLC (313) 575-6479 whankins@insta-ice.com Website: www.insta-ice.com 248-254-3840 www.morelsbymattprentice.com JULY 2012 CHALDEAN NEWS 19
