KIDS corner What do you think heaven is like? By Renna Sarafa, 12 We all grew up with images of heaven in our heads from pictures in children Bibles and paintings in church. Everyone has their own idea. Sometimes adults have a hard time explaining something they can’t see or touch. Young people, however, can be more open minded and not so tied down to real-world explanations. With that in mind, I asked several young Chaldeans for their mental picture of heaven. First, I share one of my favorite movie passages. 12-year-old Ethan Ervin shares his vision of heaven. Thomas: What do you think it’s like? Vada: What? Thomas: Heaven. Vada: I think... everybody gets their own white horse and all they do is ride them and eat marshmallows all day. And everybody’s best friends with everybody else. When you play sports, there’s no teams, so nobody gets picked last. Thomas: But what if you’re afraid to ride horses? Vada: Doesn’t matter ‘cause they’re not regular horses. They’ve got wings. And it’s no big deal if you fall ‘cause you’ll just land in a cloud. – From the movie My Girl A world that you can do whatever you want, like you can lay on a cloud and won’t fall off. And you can eat whatever you want without getting fat. – Haley Qasawa, 12 Farmington Hills It’s like a paradise. A world of milkshakes, candy, chocolate and God. You can roam freely. First, you have to work hard to get there. – Jacob Kello, 11 Bloomfield Hills Rainbows and angels watching you and bunches of crosses. Everything you have on Earth you have in Heaven. – Katelyn Kizy, 9 West Bloomfield I imagine heaven like anything in the world but in the sky. You can do anything you want. It is a very happy place where you go and meet God. – Wade Seba, 8 Farmington Hills A wonderful place that you can hope for when you pass away for everlasting life. I think it will be the most peaceful place you will ever see. – Brendan Ammori, 11 Bloomfield Hills You can sit on the clouds with angels. You get to talk and be with God forever. It’s sunny and beautiful. There are rainbows everywhere and everyone wears white. There are pretty gardens all around you. – Amber Ibrahim, 10 West Bloomfield It is full of streets and everything is perfect. It is a flawless place of gold. I imagine that people look like what they did during the happiest moment of their life. – Madelyn Sheena, 13 Bloomfield Hills A sunny place with blue skies. A whole different world but everyone in this world is good. There are rainbows all around you. – Maria Jonna, 13, Birmingham There are clouds all over the place and people are lying flat on the floor. The whole place is blue. There are angels everywhere and God is looking at all the people. – Jonah Kalawa, 7 West Bloomfield Heaven is a fun place. God speaks to you. It’s a happier place than Earth.
