your letters continued from page 15 Abortion is clearly an issue so many don’t want to talk about. And yet discussions about abortion in the public arena never go away. Many try to rationalize that it is just fine to take the life of an unborn child in the womb, but our conscience tells us otherwise. Let’s be clear from the start, abortion is wrong, always! When we vote, we have the freedom to choose for whom we will vote. According to the Declaration of Independence, all have the unalienable right to life. Having said that, the first look should be about whether or not a candidate is prolife. That is where we should begin considering whether or not a candidate is qualified to receive our vote, because without life nothing else matters. Our nation has a long history of voters who go to the polls to vote for a candidate or against another candidate based on a single issue. From the abolition of slavery to civil rights for African- Americans and women, people have voted their principles and have made a difference for the better. This kind of voting is not new and is not something unique to only a few. In fact, single issue voting is critical, especially for the unborn. All human life has value and to make this a reality in the United States, we need to vote for candidates who are proudly prolife. We share with others our selfless, focused approach to this critical issue of life, because without life nothing else matters. One way that Right to Life of Michigan assists voters in Michigan is through the Right to Life of Michigan Political Action Committee (RLM-PAC). The RLM-PAC works with volunteers to identify capable prolife candidates through individual candidate questionnaires and personal interviews. How do you know if a candidate is prolife? The RLM-PAC has been interviewing candidates for more than 30 years. As elections draw near, a Right to Life of Michigan Political Action Committee listing of endorsed candidates will be posted at www.rtl.org – Kathleen Bordo Crombie Director of Minority Outreach Right to Life of Michigan Love to Be Chaldean One day I met with a young man in a gas station located on Northwestern Highway. The young man was very happy to see me and after we exchanged Chaldean kisses he asked me how was business. I responded by saying, “I can always use a referral.” He immediately responded and said, “I will.” He was in a hurry because he had to be somewhere. While he was about to leave we looked outside the gas station and noticed a lady driving in with a flat tire. The gas station did not have any service to fix a car problem, meaning no mechanic. When we spoke with the lady, she turned out to be Chaldean. At this time, since this young man was in a hurry to go to his appointment, he asked her if she had road service insurance. She didn’t know what to answer; she was almost in tears and it was getting dark. He asked her if she had a spare tire, but she was not sure. Despite that he was in a hurry, he opened her trunk and changed her tire, put everything in order and told her you are all set, “Allah Emich.” She offered to pay and he refused. She asked him, “Who are you?” He responded, “It doesn’t matter. Since we are both Chaldean, I am glad I was able to be of help.” Until today, I asked myself how our Chaldean youth has changed for love, respect, care and cooperation to each other. Until today I have no idea who this lady is! But, I know who this young man is who expressed his concern for the Chaldean lady and on behalf of the lady and myself, thank you Deavin Shoki Konja. You are truly a great and wonderful young man. Congratulations to your parents. We are proud to have a Chaldean young man like you. If I wasn’t Chaldean, I would love to be one. God bless. – Faisal Arabo Setting the Record Straight We are the parents of Feras Sallam Salem, who passed away due to a tragic accident on October 12, 2011 at 10:20 p.m. We would like to thank all who came and showed their love and support towards our son. We would also like to clear up all rumors about our son that said he was dealing with drugs and alcohol. The police report has stated there were NO drugs and alcohol involved. – Itimad and Sallam Salem Editor’s Note: The Salems produced a copy of the accident report from Michigan State Police, which shows drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the accident.
