CHAI time CHALDEANS CONNECTING COMMUNITY EVENTS IN AND AROUND METRO DETROIT AUGUST 2018 Saturday, August 4 Charity: Fleece and Thank You is a Michigan based charity that works to give kids in the hospital a connection to the outside world during their treatment journey by supplying them with a handmade fleece blanket and a video message of support from the blanket maker. This year, Fleece and Thank you will be hosting their annual Make a Blanket Day at Airtime Trampoline in Troy on Saturday, August 4 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. This year’s goal is to make 2,500 blankets. Every covers the cost of one blanket. You have the option of making a blanket yourself at the event or from home or donating – in which a volunteer will make the blanket for you. Primary election day is finally here and it is our duty as citizens of the United States to head to the polls. Mid term elections are just as important as the presidential election, if not more. A portion of each ticket sold for this event will go towards supporting Coalition on Temporary Shelter and their mission to give hope, help and a better future. Wednesday, August 8 Charity: The Cancer Thrivers Network for Jewish Women is hosting the “Celebrating Life” luncheon. This fundraising luncheon will be hosted at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. The event will feature Dr. Clifford Hudis, CEO of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Event goers will have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Hudis about the latest scientific advances in cancer research as well as real world challenges. Tickets for this luncheon are priced at each. Funds raised during this event will allow the organization to continue offering an array of programs and advocate for patients. The two-day event will feature live music, food trucks, boutique vendors and more. Kimmie Horne is slated to perform both days, headlining the festival on Saturday and performing a special female duet collaboration with members from Grammy-nominated jazz group Straight Ahead on Friday. The festival will also feature performances by Straight Ahead, Kathy Kosins, Penny Wells, Shelia Landis, Rick Matle, David Green, Amy Lee and music director Al McKenzie.
