chaldean on the STREET What’s Your Advice for New Students? BY HALIM SHEENA School will be back in session before we know it. Here’s some words of wisdom from those in the know on making the most of the high school or college experience. For students new to high school I recommend looking into college programs early. My biggest regret was not being informed about the many programs that offer early acceptance into college-level programs while still in high school. There are tons of opportunities to get ahead, you just have to do some research. Also, get involved! You’re not great at sports? So what? Try out! What do you have to lose? – Crystal Zair, 22 Farmington Hills My advice would be to have fun, meet new people and get involved! These are the best days of our lives, but also keep in perspective why you’re there and don’t let all the new distractions and friends keep you from your studies. School is No. 1 and all the fun comes second. – Hope Sheena, 20 Keego Harbor My advice to new students coming to college is that now is a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. But be careful and make sure that you don’t get sidetracked; always remember that school is the top priority. Always find a balance, otherwise you’ll find yourself slipping up. – Monique Bajouka, 20 Bloomfield Hills My advice to new high school students is to stay focused in school and join clubs that you enjoy and interest you so that you can meet new people. For students new to college, start off strong by preparing for each exam appropriately because before you know it, the semester will be over. Whether high school or college, be sure to enjoy it and take advantage of each opportunity given to you. – Collin Konja, 20 Northville High school can be really tricky because that’s where some of the most changes will happen in your life. You will encounter many amazing experiences and come across numerous new faces, but amongst all of this remember not to get lost in it all. Stay true to who you are and keep your eyes on the prize of what’s to come after high school. – Sylvia Kashat, 18 Bloomfield Hills I recommend that you give it everything you’ve got and keep pushing yourself to work harder. On the days you feel like quitting or want to be lazy and not do anything, push past it and try your best. At the end of the day when it’s time to graduate and you looked back at all the times you pushed hard, it will feel so much sweeter in the end. – Randy Rasho, 23 Sterling Heights The best thing I can recommend is to take every opportunity you can to go to school events. Not only will you have fun, you will also meet new people and you will enjoy your high school or college experience even more. If your high school or college has a CASA, you should definitely join it because it’s one outstanding organization to be a part of. – Vincent Lirato, 18 Farmington Hills 34 CHALDEAN NEWS AUGUST 2016
